Stella Carneiro is a Brazilian film director, writer and producer who has worked on over thirty short-films, a few Brazilian features and television series for some of Brazil’s biggest film production companies such as Gullane, Paris Entertainment, TV Globo and REC Produtores. Stella has a degree in Cinema from FAAP/São Paulo, an M.A in Screenwriting through the Erasmus program Kino Eyes - The European Fiction Masters and is currently a PhD scholarship from FILMEU at Universidade Lusófona.

 

Stella worked as an assistant screenwriter for the 2nd season of the television series Jailers, as well as alongside director Marcelo Gomes’ for his film Joaquim, which premiered at Berlinale. A feature-film screenplay written by her was awarded Honorable Mention in the most prestigious screenplay festival in Latin America, FRAPA, located in Porto Alegre, while the short-films she wrote “Ledsin” (2021), “Uibu Talu” (2022) and “Days Without” (2022) have been screened in numerous festivals around the world, such as Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), Brussels Short Film Festival and Odense International Film Festival in Denmark. Stella was a finalist at the Baltic Pitching Forum 2020 and was recently selected to take part of the European Short Pitch held in France. Her directorial debut “Golden Shower” is now being distributed.

The second season of the Brazilian television series Jailers was watched by millions of Brazilians all over the country. Produced by TV Globo, Brazil’s Emmy-awarded television channel, the first season of Jailers was such a hit that a second season was immediately on the way. Stella was hired as an Assistant Screenwriter to keep the whole crew updated with the changes that came along with the extra episodes.

Selected to represent Brazil in the 2018 Academy Awards, Bingo: The King of the Mornings was produced by Gullane and directed by one of the most talented directors Brazil has to offer, Daniel Rezende. In her early years within the film industry, Stella was working at Gullane as a Dramaturgy Assistant. She worked as well as on other features and television series for the production company.

From the same director of Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures, one of the most acclaimed films in the history of Brazilian Cinema, Joaquim by Marcelo Gomes had its premiere at Berlinale. The feature-film tells the story of the historical figure popularly known as Tiradentes, one of the revolutionaries of 18th century Brazil. Stella worked as an Assistant to Gomes, her work ranging from research for the screenplay to being his assistant director.
